Nickels
Nickels have epitomized the US currency since 1792 when the original US coin, the Disme first debuted. While this coin was made of silver and contained no nickel, it paved the way for future generations of nickel coins that are still used in circulation today. Over time, striking and composition changed to keep up with national economic and social trends. Currently, five-cent pieces contain 25% nickel and 75% copper, though special collectible releases may have different metallurgy values or designs. The nostalgia associated with collecting these coins has been around since they were first struck. Today they are a cherished memento from days past as well as a reminder of our remarkable transformation as a country over this span of more than two centuries.
