Three Cents (Silver and Nickel)
Three cent coins known as “Trimes” were a type of coin minted by the United States from 1851 to 1889. There were two versions of these coins: the silver three cent piece and the nickel three cent piece. The coin was originally designed to match the decrease in postage rates. Both versions were small in size and had a distinctive design in relation to other US coins. Today, three cent coins are highly collectible and offer a glimpse into a unique era of American coinage history.
