1856-O Seated Liberty Quarter PCGS VG08
The 1856-O Seated Liberty Quarter is a 90% silver 25-cent piece struck at the New Orleans Mint with a total mintage of 968,000 coins. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, this mid-nineteenth-century issue is highly collectible for its historical significance and regional "O" mintmark, which is located on the reverse side beneath the eagle. In 1856, the United States Mint removed the prominent arrowheads that sat on either side of the date from 1853 to 1855. The arrowheads originally signified a temporary reduction in coin weight, but by 1856, the design returned to the standard weight variation without arrows. Collectors appreciate the 1856-O for its generally sharp strike quality compared to other New Orleans issues of the era.
