1887 $1 VAM 12 "Alligator Eye" Morgan Silver Dollar "TOP 100" PCGS MS62
The VAM 12 Variety: This coin is part of the prestigious "Top 100" Morgan VAM varieties. It is nicknamed the "Alligator Eye" because of a distinct doubled die obverse (DDO) error that causes doubling inside Liberty's eyelid, making it look heavily textured, resembling a gator's eye
Main Variety Feature – “Alligator Eye”. The nickname “Alligator Eye” comes from a raised die gouge near Liberty’s eye on the obverse that makes the eye look elongated and reptile-like, similar to an alligator’s eye. Where to look: Obverse (Liberty side) directly at Liberty’s eye. What you’ll see is a thin raised line or gouge extending from the eye. The line alters the shape, so the eye appears longer and sharper than normal. Under magnification it can resemble the slit-like eye of an alligator.
