Anna Escobedo Cabral is particularly relevant to coin and currency collectors because she was the 42nd Treasurer of the United States, serving from January 19, 2005 to January 20, 2009 under President George W. Bush. She was nominated in 2004, confirmed by the Senate, and as Treasurer advised Treasury leadership and the directors of the U.S. Mint and Bureau of Engraving and Printing on coinage and currency matters.  Why she's important to collectors  During Cabral's tenure, the U.S. Mint introduced or produced several major modern programs, including the 2006 American Gold Buffalo, the 2006 20th Anniversary American Silver and Gold Eagle sets (including the first U.S. Reverse Proof coins), the Presidential Dollar program beginning in 2007, and the First Spouse Gold Coin program beginning in 2007.
